Micro mapping on plants
Residency
Soetkin Verstegen (Belgium)

A stop motion animation specialist offers a radiography of a tree from the Rue du Réduit, inspired by ice sculptures one can find in frozen lakes…

Micro mapping created by Soetkin Verstegen (Belgium) as part of a creation residency.

Using ice sculptures and textures found in frozen lakes, the tree on Rue du Réduit turns into a fragile, melting body. The light rays fall on the bark and pierce through like X-rays, reveal it’s ghostly insides. Botanic and human-like shapes weave into breakable bones, flowing veins and quavery sinews. Decaying and breathing, disappearing and growing back.
